Reception Class Admissions
Our Reception classes are part of our Early Years Unit, and share fantastic indoor and outdoor spaces with Nursery. Children can attend Reception in the September after their 4th birthday.
We have one intake each September of 90 full time places.
To apply for a Reception place in September 2026, parents in Oxfordshire need to apply through Oxfordshire County Council for a child born between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022. Applications are made online from 4th November 2025, with the closing date being 15th January 2026. An important date to remember is 16th April 2026, when parents will be notified of their school place.
Key Dates for Reception 2026 Admissions:
- 4th November 2025: Online applications open for Reception places.
- 15th January 2026: Closing date for applications.
- 16th April 2026: National Allocation Day – parents are notified of their school place.
- September 2026: Children begin Reception.
What should I do if my child isn't allocated a Reception Place at St Edburg's?
We know that you will be disappointed that your child was not offered a place in Reception for September at St. Edburg’s School.
We wish that we were able to admit everybody living in Kingsmere, but unfortunately, we are only able to take 90 children.
Places were allocated strictly according to our admissions policy, as agreed with Oxfordshire County Council and the Diocese of Oxford. The policy can be found on this website. We understand how disappointing this situation is, and we know that you may now be thinking about appealing the decision.
If you are considering appealing, please email our admissions lead at admissions@st-edburgs.oxon.sch.uk for information on the process. it is worth noting that the school is bound by the government’s legal limit on infant class size, and as such can only admit a maximum of 30 children into each of our three Reception classes, as such any appeal is unlikely to be successful.
It is our advice that you accept the school place offered to your child even if it is not your preferred choice, to avoid your child being without a place at all.
