St Edburg's CE Primary School

All are valued, all are loved

Religious Education

But the angels said to them,
“Do not be afraid, I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all people.”
Luke 2:10

The angels brought the Good News that God’s son had been born. Jesus teaches us that we should value and love one another. By our example, our children are nurtured and encouraged to be kind and compassionate, showing God’s love to those around them and enabling everyone to flourish.

Everyone is included in the St Edburg’s family, inspired to make a positive change and encouraged to interact with the community around us.

All are valued, all are loved.

At St Edburg’s CE Primary School we teach RE in accordance with the Oxfordshire Agreed Syllabus. Children at our school say that Religious Education is important because it “teaches you about values like peace, love, forgiveness and compassion.” They say that it helps them to understand all the different religions in Britain and that when we learn about the beliefs of others it helps us respect and appreciate people’s values and customs.

Religious Education gives children a forum for exploring the significance of religion for themselves and others. It gives them opportunity to consider big questions including, ‘What happens when I die’ or ‘Was Jesus the Messiah?’ or ‘Why do some people wear different clothes as part of their religion?’ RE enables children to debate and discuss and extend interest and curiosity. RE challenges prejudice, discrimination and stereotyping.

Religious Education at our school also promotes children’s self-worth, enabling them to reflect on their uniqueness as human beings, to share their feelings and emotions with others and to appreciate the importance of forming and maintaining positive relationships
