The angels brought the Good News that God’s son had been born. Jesus teaches us that we should value and love one another. By our example, our children are nurtured and encouraged to be kind and compassionate, showing God’s love to those around them and enabling everyone to flourish.

Pedagogy

The intention of the Geography Curriculum at St Edburg’s Primary School is to inspire all children’s curiosity and interest to explore the world that we live in and its people. We want to ignite a love of learning and a passion for looking after the world so we can make the world a better place.

Through our teaching, experiential learning and our outdoor learning, teachers provide purposeful and meaningful outcomes for the children with a learning schedule that encourages deep thinking, wondering, asking questions and problem solving. Teachers promote independent learning and encourage children to discover answers to their own questions through exploration and research to enable them to gain a greater understanding and knowledge of the world and their place in it. Our Curriculum plan ensures that teaching expectations are high. It also ensures that skills and knowledge are rigorously taught, with geographical skills, such as map-work, placed at the heart of each of our units.

Our Curriculum has been carefully chosen to expose children to a wide range of cultures, settlements and environments. This is central to enabling all children to feel included in the units, with an intention of allowing children to both see themselves and get a better understanding of their place in the world. This is a key focus within the comparison studies within each key stage, which allow children to engage with not only our country and community but how it compares to those elsewhere in the world.

Our Curriculum is also driven by a response to ensure that children are global citizens, who are driven to take action and interact with the world. Key concepts such as courageous advocacy and global citizenship run through our curriculum. As part of this, Climate change is a key unit, which helps children understand the importance of living sustainably and looking after our world. Living in one of the fastest growing towns gives us a perfect opportunity to learn about urban growth in every key stage in a way that is meaningful to the children and enables them to interact with the changes taking place around them.

St Edburg's Climate Change Conference: 
Inspired by COP 26, we held our own whole-school climate change event. 
 
St Edburg's Climate Change conference took place over the first two weeks of term 3. In every class children were given the opportunity to become activists, as well as realising their role as a global citizen. As a school, we embraced the Oxford diocese 'Be the Change' slogan to enable each child to see how they can influence change.
 
The children's acts of activism have had some fantastic results, including an article in the Oxford Mail and a handwritten letter from Sir David Attenborough!
